Natural Curiosities is a natural history series for UKTV and BBC2. The series focuses on some of David Attenborough’s favourite untold stories from the natural world – from armoured giants to crafty insects.

The series featured a lot of archive and historic information, so working with the Humble Bee team we developed a visual identity for the series based on 19th century maps and scientific drawings. Over three series, we crafted a catalogue of explanatory graphics and animated maps.

Our job was to help the audience visualise everything that couldn’t be captured on camera. From how a pigeon navigates, to showing bees swarm, even how a salamander grows back an amputated leg. We also designed an ant-based board game for Sir David to use in one of his pieces to camera – but we never actually got to play it with him (sad face).
“Shy Guys Studios are always a real pleasure to work with. They are very creative and talented, have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, and always deliver on time.”
